I thought I knew you
But you were such a blur to my heart
I thought I could do you
I thought I could be good
But in every way I knew I could not
I was broken down
A dead man dying from he has wrought
You opened my eyes
And stopped my lies
And showed to me that the way I was would be the eternal death of me
You knew, you knew
So I came as you drew because you knew
You took my soul and proved to me that you had me into a new man
And you spent my life making me understand the love of you
You knew that I was nothing so you broke me to remake me into something you could love and you could use
I turned for years as you slowly appeared to me brighter and brighter
You humbled by hurt
When I think I've stayed awake all night you still open my eyes
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God. How vast the sum of them.
It is worth my life to spend to know even one of them
The sum of your word is truth and I shake
My heart stands in awe of your words O Holy God, Ancient of Days
Written for the 10th anniversary from when I started writing serious lyrics. The first song 10 years ago was titled New so I found it fitting to write one with the title Knew. It is also fitting that I look back 10 years to when I was lost and how God found me and refound me.
